Shiatsu is a form of massage therapy based on the same energetic principles as acupuncture but uses thumb and hand pressure rather that needles. A full hour Shiatsu session is performed on a mat, similar to a futon, with clothes on. Shiatsu can also be incorporated as part of a massage session on a massage table that includes other massage techniques.
The therapist is called the “Giver” and the client the “Receiver” in a Shiatsu session. The giver responds to the receiver’s energy to provide just the right amount of pressure for any body type.
