Did you know that in addition to treating musculoskeletal pain, reducing anxiety, and strengthening the immune system, acupuncture is an excellent therapy for cardiovascular disease?

A recent study at UCLA found that acupuncture significantly lowers stress and improves heart function in very sick heart failure patients.  The study concluded that acupuncture considerably relaxes the nervous system, which results in less stress on the heart and blood vessels.  This is very important because patients with heart conditions often have hyperactive nervous systems, which can put a great deal of strain on their hearts.  When the nervous system becomes more relaxed, the heart doesn’t have to work as hard and is better able to function.

Cardiovascular disease is a very important matter.  It can lead to major complications and even sudden death in some situations.  The expression “as serious as a heart attack” describes its gravity.  It is worth the effort to do all we can to take the best care of our cardiovascular systems.  This includes moderate exercise, a healthy diet, good quality sleep, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture.
